1 dead after train slams into tractor-trailer in Hanoi

The Hanoi Department of Public Security announced that the accident occurred at 7:51 pm.

At the time, the SE3 train, pulling 14 carriages, was traveling in the Van Dien - Thuong Tin direction.

The train was operated by driver H.M.H..

As the train was approaching a level crossing equipped with warning signals, it struck a tractor-trailer driven by N.V.T., a 52-year-old resident of Hanoi.

The crash hurled the vehicle dozens of meters from the crossing, killing the driver of the tractor-trailer on the spot.

Another man, identified as D.N.H., a 45-year-old resident of Ngoc Hoi Commune in Hanoi, was injured in the collision.

Initial diagnosis indicated he suffered multiple traumatic injuries and fractures.

He is receiving emergency treatment at the Agricultural General Hospital.

Footage captured by cameras at the scene showed that the crossing was fitted with warning systems, but the driver of the vehicle attempted to cross the tracks at the same moment the barrier arms were lowering, causing the vehicle to become trapped.

It was raining heavily at the time of the accident, making the road surface slippery and reducing visibility.

The crash caused significant damage to infrastructure near the crossing.

Dozens of meters of guardrails were destroyed, and debris from the collision was scattered across the roadway.

Vietnam Railways confirmed that none of the passengers aboard the train or the train driver were injured.

The company quickly arranged for passengers to be transferred to another train to continue their journey, minimizing disruption to the railway schedule.
