11 injured as truck crashes into motorcyclists at red light in Vietnam

The truck driver blamed the crash on brake failure

A total of 11 people were injured after a truck crashed into a group of motorcyclists waiting at a red light in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on Saturday.

The accident occurred at around 2:20 pm at an intersection in Nhi Thanh Commune, Thu Thua District, said Phung Van On, head of the provincial traffic safety committee.

Preliminary information showed that a group of motorcyclists were stopping at a red light when they were hit from behind by a truck with license plate No. 51C-295.41.

About eleven people on the motorbikes were injured following the crash.

Among them, four victims were taken to the hospital over more severe injuries.

Tran Hoang Anh, the 35-year-old truck driver from Ho Chi Minh City, was then summoned to a working session with competent authorities.

Anh blamed the accident on brake failure.

Further investigation is ongoing.

On January 2, a similar road crash also happened in Long An Province, as a trailer truck slammed into 21 motorcycles at a red light, killing four people and injuring 17 others.

An investigation later revealed that the 32-year-old driver had consumed alcohol prior to the crash.
