The raft, owned and operated by 45-year-old Nguyen Van Minh of Dam Ha Commune, departed from Ghenh Vo Wharf in Quang Ha Commune at around 6:15 pm on Sunday.

It was heading toward an offshore clam farming area in the Ba Hon area in Binh Hai Village when it encountered a powerful thunderstorm, paired with a heavy downpour, and overturned.

Local authorities in Dam Ha Commune, in coordination with border guards, launched an immediate search and rescue operation.

Fifteen individuals were successfully rescued and brought safely to shore.

However, two others were reported missing.

At 7:00 am on Monday, the bodies of the two missing individuals, including 41-year-old Nong Thi Huyen and 43-year-old Tran Van Quan, both residents of Quang Ha Commune, were recovered.

Officials from Dam Ha and Quang Ha Communes are working alongside relevant agencies to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.

All five individuals were safely brought ashore at 7:15 pm, one hour after the incident.
