Local residents discovered the incident around noon when they noticed an open manhole near Nguyen Thuc Duong-Nguyen Duy Trinh Intersection.
Upon looking down, they spotted two men lying motionless at the bottom of the drainage system, so they quickly reported the case to local authorities.
A team of firefighters, rescuers and officers, and two specialized vehicles were sent to the scene.
Officers confirmed that the two workers were trapped some eight meters below the surface in a sewer with a diameter of about one meter.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Rescuers, equipped with specialized tools and breathing apparatus, descended into the narrow and deep sewer shaft to retrieve the bodies.
The victims were found wearing standard work uniforms, and one of them was still wearing a safety helmet.
The case is currently under investigation.
