20kg of ketamine washes up ashore in central Vietnam

About 20 kilograms of narcotics was discovered washing up on a beach in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam on Monday.

The provincial border guard unit confirmed on Monday that it seized about 20 kilograms of ketamine that had washed up on shore.

At around 1:00 pm the same day, some local residents discovered a sack containing an unidentified substance at a beach in Pho Chau Commune, Duc Pho Town.

After receiving reports from local residents, border guard officers, in coordination with police officers, were mobilized to examine and seize the items.

A sack was found containing 20 bags, each weighing one kilogram and printed with foreign letters.

A type of white powder was found inside the bags.

A rapid test later revealed the powder to be ketamine.

Border guard officers were tasked with patrolling the beach to look for similar items.

Local residents are also advised to hand over such narcotics to authorities if they find them at local beaches.

The incident is not unprecedented as many bags of narcotics have previously washed up ashore in central provinces such as Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Quang Tri.
