The official added that the most recent subsidence incident occurred at around 4:30 am on Thursday along the Kinh Moi route.
The collapse caused a 30m-long section of a rural road to slide into the river and damaged a shrimp farming facility of a local household.
“This road had only been in use for a short time, but it’s now completely cut off. Vehicles cannot pass. We’ve temporarily moved the broken concrete slab inward to allow motorbikes to pass while awaiting a more permanent solution,” the official said.
In the year to date, the commune has seen 23 land collapses, damaging eight road sections, 11 houses, one rural bridge, and a shrine listed as a provincial historical site.
The commune’s administration has spent over VND460 million ($17,600) to reinforce and temporarily fix the most hazardous locations.
According to statistics provided by this southernmost province, land subsidence across Ca Mau has damaged more than 1.3 kilometers of roads, nearly 50 homes, and multiple other structures, causing over VND16 billion ($614,000) in losses.
In response, the chairman of the Ca Mau People's Committee has issued a directive to relevant agencies to urgently implement approved response measures to ensure public safety and minimize damage.
