The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance recently submitted a report to the municipal government proposing investment plans for these three key bridge projects.
Plans to develop 3 bridges
On July 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance also held a meeting on the three projects with the Department of Finance of Dong Nai Province, along with other departments and agencies from both localities.
For the Cat Lai Bridge, the Dong Nai Project Management Board will continue studying the development plan with three components, using local budget funds. The main bridge will be developed through a public-private partnership model.
For the Phu My 2 Bridge, both sides agreed on a plan that includes an approach road in Dong Nai extending to Lien Cang Road. However, Ho Chi Minh City officials suggested that Dong Nai extend the road alignment further to maximize the project's effectiveness.
The Dong Nai 2 Bridge is already included in existing planning and is being updated in Dong Nai’s relevant infrastructure plans.
Ho Chi Minh City will study connecting infrastructure on the city side, including a projected link from Dong Nai 2 Bridge to Beltway No. 3.
Meanwhile, the construction departments of both localities will coordinate to review the scale, route alignment, and associated planning documents to ensure optimal, integrated development.
Solving congestion toward Long Thanh Airport
It is a must to urgently invest in transport links between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh International Airport, now under construction, to ensure smooth traffic flow once the airport is operational.
The Phu My 2 Bridge will serve as a new transportation axis directly linking the Saigon South urban area with Long Thanh Airport. Together with Nguyen Huu Tho Street in Ho Chi Minh City and Road 25C in Dong Nai, it will form a transport corridor connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports.

For those commuting between Ho Chi Minh City and Nhon Trach via the Cat Lai Ferry, traffic jams have long been a major issue.
Phan Hung Dung, an engineer working in the Nhon Trach Industrial Zone, said, “the Nhon Trach Bridge on Beltway No. 3 is about to open, which is great news for residents. If the Cat Lai Bridge is built soon, it will help reduce chronic congestion and make travel between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai more convenient.”
Meanwhile, the Dong Nai 2 Bridge is also expected to enhance regional connectivity.
According to the design plan, the bridge will cross the Dong Nai River downstream, in the area of Long Hung Commune, which already has roads linking to urban areas.
According to the Dong Nai People’s Committee, once completed, the Dong Nai 2 Bridge will integrate with Beltway No. 2 and Beltway No. 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi Highway, Huong Lo 2 Road, and National Highway 51, creating a new transport axis between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports.
It will also ease traffic pressure on existing routes such as the Dong Nai Bridge, Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway, and Phu My Bridge.
