Four major museums in Hanoi are opening their doors free of charge to both locals and tourists in celebration of Vietnam’s 80th National Day (September 2).

These museums include the Ho Chi Minh Museum, the Vietnam Military History Museum, the Vietnam National Museum of History, and the Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts.

Ho Chi Minh Museum

Located behind the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Ho Chi Minh Museum houses a vast collection of documents, artifacts and exhibits dedicated to the life and revolutionary career of the beloved national leader.

Visitors can explore the profound legacy of late President Ho Chi Minh, who devoted his life to the independence and liberation of Vietnam.

In honor of National Day, the museum is showcasing two special exhibitions themed ‘Autumn of Independence’ and ‘Spring of Freedom,’ featuring a collection of oil paintings displayed in its outdoor space.

Admission is free from Monday through Wednesday.

Vietnam Military History Museum

Situated along Thang Long Boulevard, the Vietnam Military History Museum spans over 38 hectares and has quickly become a must-visit destination since its opening in November 2024.

The museum currently displays over 150,000 historical artifacts, including four national treasures, namely two MIG-21 aircraft, a T54B tank, and the strategic battle map used in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

The museum is waiving entrance fees for both local and international tourists until Tuesday to provide them with an opportunity to delve into the rich history of Vietnam's struggle for independence and nation-building.

The initiative is aimed at deepening public understanding of the significance of Vietnam’s National Day.

Vietnam National Museum of History

Located in the heart of Hanoi, the Vietnam National Museum of History is one of the country's most important cultural institutions.

The museum boasts hundreds of thousands of rare and valuable artifacts that trace the nation’s development from prehistoric times to the present day.

It offers a comprehensive view of Vietnam’s cultural and historical evolution, making it an ideal destination for researchers, history enthusiasts and curious visitors.

Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts

The Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts houses an extensive collection of artworks spanning from prehistoric times to the modern era.

Among its treasures are traditional lacquer paintings, oil works, sculptures, ceramics, and folk art.

In celebration of National Day, the museum is hosting two exhibitions, including ‘Children of the Nation’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence in Arts.’

Free admission is available until Wednesday.

Festive activities across Hanoi

Beyond museum visits, a variety of cultural and recreational events are being held throughout Hanoi.

The ‘Ba Dinh in Red’ program is taking place on Truc Bach Pedestrian Street, decorated with 28,000 national flags, offering unique photo opportunities.

The Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism is hosting the ‘Mountainous Market – Joyful Independence’ festival, featuring ethnic markets, traditional crafts, and culinary experiences.

The festival runs until Wednesday.

Furthermore, the Vietnam Contemporary Art Theatre is opening its doors to guests with free entrance, treating them to water puppet shows and musical performances throughout the holiday.
