Huynh Nguyen Duy Liem, head of the pediatrics department at Bac Lieu General Hospital, confirmed on Wednesday that the children were admitted with symptoms of nausea and dizziness.
They were diagnosed with poisoning and immediately treated with gastric lavage.
Their conditions have since stabilized, though they remain under close observation.
According to their families, the children live with their grandmother in Vinh Trach Dong Commune in the provincial city of Bac Lieu while their parents work away from home.
After school, they often played near her grandmother’s fish stall at the market, where they consumed the poisoned noodles left unattended by a nearby vendor.
The children were first rushed to a commune medical center before being transferred to the provincial hospital for further treatment.
Dr. Liem urged families to be extremely cautious when storing or using toxic substances at their homes or business facilities to prevent such dangerous incidents.
Rat poison can enter the body through the digestive tract within hours, potentially causing life-threatening consequences, he warned.
Immediate first aid and prompt medical attention are critical in such cases.
