42kg tree root shaped like a deer found in central province

A 42kg manioc tuberous root shaped like a deer lying on its abdomen was dug up by a local in central Thua Thien Hue province.

The root was discovered by Nguyen Van Long in Phu Vang district on Dec 31, 2013.

According to Long, he grew the plant in his back garden five years ago. He happened to dig it up while working on his water pipe.

Shaped as a lying deer with a body, head, antlers, legs and tail, the root measures some 80cm in length and 90cm in diameter.

Long recently gave the root to another man in the neighborhood. It has drawn hordes of curious people in the past two days.

Manioc plants are typically some 2-3m high and yield roots, each of which weighs some kilograms at most.
