48 tourists hospitalized for suspected food poisoning after resort meals in south-central Vietnam

Forty-eight tourists were hospitalized over suspected food poisoning as of Sunday morning after having meals at a resort in Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam.

A group of 182 tourists checked into The Sailing Bay Mui Ne in Mui Ne Ward, Phan Thiet City on Friday and had dinner at Canh Buom Vang Restaurant that evening, according to the provincial Department of Health.

On Saturday morning, they had buffet meals at The Sailing Bay Mui Ne.

On the same day, 176 of them had lunch at the resort.

The first case was hospitalized at An Phuoc Hospital in Phan Thiet City at 3:00 pm on Saturday with symptoms of stomachache, diarrhea, and vomiting. The following cases developed the same symptoms.

The Binh Thuan Department of Health said some of the cases have been discharged from hospital.

The department has established three teams to work at the hospital, collect food samples, and inspect food safety at relevant units.

At The Sailing Bay Mui Ne, the teams gathered 26 food samples.

They also inspected Canh Buom Vang Restaurant but did not collect any samples from Friday's dinner, as the restaurant discarded them at 6:30 pm on Saturday, following regulations.

The department stated it would report the investigation results later.
