5 severely burned victims die in Ho Chi Minh City eatery fire

A representative of Cho Ray Hospital told Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper on Monday that all five severely burned victims transferred to the hospital after the fire have died despite doctors' efforts to save them.

A victim born in 1996 died at 5:45 pm on Sunday. The other four patients drew their last breath earlier in the week.

On July 13, Gia Dinh People's Hospital said that it had reported the burn cases caused by the fire to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health.

The fire broke out at around 8:00 pm on July 11.

The fire produced a towering column of black smoke that spread across a wide area and was visible from considerable distances because the premises contained large quantities of highly flammable materials.

After receiving the report of the fire, authorities quickly arrived at the scene, carried out firefighting operations, and worked to prevent the flames from spreading.

Gia Dinh People's Hospital received six patients from the same address at 56 Ngo Duc Ke Street after they suffered burns and smoke inhalation in the incident.

Among the six patients, H.T.K.T., 46, was conscious and in stable condition upon admission, with scattered burns on both forearms and upper arms covering two percent of the body.

The patient was discharged on July 14, according to Gia Dinh People's Hospital.

Three other patients were diagnosed with burn shock, extensive second- and third-degree thermal burns, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure, and stress-related gastrointestinal bleeding.

Another patient, aged 56, suffered extensive third-degree burns covering more than 80 percent of the body, along with respiratory failure.

N.T.T., 53, sustained extensive third-degree burns covering more than 51 percent of the body and respiratory failure.

On July 13, the five patients were transferred to Cho Ray Hospital in critical condition with inhalation injuries.
