More than 50 Vietnamese were among the 137 people nabbed as police raided an unlicensed karaoke-pub outlet in Puchong town in the Petaling district of Selangor, Malaysia.
New Straits Times said the raid was conducted early morning on October 26, when 52 Vietnamese guest relation officers and 85 local patrons of the outlet were detained.
A guest relations officer is the first worker to greet guests as they arrive at the venue.
But Roslin Mohd Isa, head of the Secret Societies, Vice and Gambling Division believed the female workers had provided sexual services outside the outlet, at prices ranging from RM100 to RM300 (US$30 - $90) per night.
Roslin told New Straits Times that the detained Vietnamese are between 20 and 41 years old, who entered Malaysia and worked at the outlet by social passes.
The inspector also said the karaoke-pub outlet, based in Bandar Puchong Jaya town, had previously been raided twice.
The joint crackdown was done under the ongoing nationwide Op Cantas Khas initiative, aimed at sweeping out gangs and criminals. The initiative was launched on August 17.
