Their action reportedly posed a high risk of traffic accidents.

The six women were fined a combined total of VND1.5 million ($58).

Traffic police officers said on Sunday that they had worked with local police in Hai Van Ward to identify the women involved.

Social media posts and photographs showed a group of women sitting in the middle of the road to pose for pictures at a sharp hairpin bend on Hai Van Pass in Hai Van Ward on Saturday.

After becoming aware of the posts, officers promptly launched an investigation and summoned the six women for questioning.

Initial findings showed that at around 8:30 am the same day, the women had hired a car from Phu Loc Commune in Hue City to visit Hai Van Pass and take photographs.

When they reached the bend, the group asked the driver to stop.

They then walked into the middle of the road, sat down to pose for photographs, and asked another tourist to take pictures of them, despite other vehicles continuing to travel along the route.

Authorities described the behavior as extremely dangerous, saying it demonstrated a lack of awareness of traffic safety regulations.

Hai Van Pass features steep terrain, numerous sharp bends and limited visibility.

Gathering and sitting in the middle of the road to take photographs can catch drivers by surprise, leaving them with insufficient time to react and potentially causing serious accidents.

Such behavior puts both the offenders and other road users at direct risk of injury or death, authorities said.

At around 1:00 pm, police summoned the women, booked them, and imposed the fine for illegally gathering and sitting on a public road in a way that obstructed traffic.
