It is legal in Vietnam for same-sex couples to carry out sexual activities while it is illegal for them to marry. However, they are legally allowed to organize wedding ceremonies.
Luong The Huy, a juridical official at the Institute for Studies of Society, Economy and Environment, provided Tuoi Tre Newspaper with the dos and don’ts for same-sex couples in Vietnam.
Huy warned that it is illegal for same-sex couples to cohabit without registration.
Same sex couples are also not allowed to adopt children or resort to surrogate pregnancy.
It is also illegal for Vietnamese people to marry foreigners whose countries allow same-sex marriage.
