The provincial Department of Health on Tuesday instructed Bong Son Regional General Hospital, where the girl was treated, to establish a professional council to review the case, including the child's admission, diagnosis, treatment, and emergency care.
According to a report from the hospital, the girl, identified as T.N.T.D., was admitted at 8:00 am on Monday with a high fever and a persistent cough with phlegm that had lasted four days, local media reported.
She was initially diagnosed with acute bronchiolitis, given fever-reducing treatment and transferred to the pediatrics department for monitoring.
At around 9:00 am, doctors in the pediatrics department administered an antibiotic injection to the child.
Nearly four minutes later, the child developed abdominal pain, pale lips, profuse sweating, cold hands and feet, and low blood oxygen levels.
Doctors immediately initiated emergency treatment, calling in resuscitation specialists and transferring her to the intensive care department for further intervention.
Medical staff intubated the child, provided respiratory support, administered emergency medication and performed chest compressions.
However, her condition did not improve, and she was pronounced dead at 11:55 am the same day.
Following the incident, the municipal department directed the hospital to conduct a formal mortality review and establish a professional council in accordance with the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment.
The council is tasked with evaluating the entire process, from admission and initial assessment to diagnosis, treatment and emergency response, in order to clarify the circumstances surrounding the child's death.
The hospital was also ordered to cooperate with relevant authorities in investigating the case and to visit the family to offer condolences, support and sympathy.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, and relevant authorities are continuing their investigation.
