All 6 Vietnamese students win gold medals at Int’l Mathematical Olympiad

All six Vietnamese students attending the second International Mathematical Olympiad for High School Students held in Turkmenistan from April 21 to 26 secured gold medals, the Ministry of Education and Training announced on Sunday morning.

The medals went to Nguyen Tri Hau and Nguyen Tri Hien, 11th graders from Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for Gifted Students in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam.

Two other gold medals were awarded to Nguyen Phuc Nguyen, an 11th grader from Newton Middle & High School in Hanoi, and Tran Quang Nhat, a 12th grader from Le Quy Don High School for Gifted Students in central Da Nang City.

Lai Gia Khai, an 11th grader from the High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi National University of Education, and Vu Viet Ha, a 12th grader from Nguyen Trai High School for Gifted Students in northern Hai Duong Province, were also among the six students winning the gold medals.

The second International Mathematical Olympiad for High School Students was held to respond to the International Year of Peace and Trust.

The contest aims to nurture students’ talents and abilities, enhance friendship, and develop progressive thinking and open-mindedness among young people.

This year’s competition saw the participation of students from 15 countries and territories, including some with good traditions in mathematics such as China, Russia, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
