Almost 100 English teachers receive Linearthinking training in Ho Chi Minh City

The event formed part of Hoa Hung Ward's 2026 summer professional development program for education managers, teachers, and staff at local schools.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Phan Tan Phuc, vice-chairman of the Hoa Hung Ward People's Committee, said the training was intended to help local English teachers update their knowledge, teaching methods, and professional skills to improve classroom instruction and strengthen students' foreign language proficiency.

Nguyen Thanh Trung, head of the ward's culture and social affairs division, said the locality places great importance on improving teachers' professional capacity, noting that capable and dedicated educators are the foundation for raising education quality and developing a skilled workforce for the city and society.

Each summer, the ward selects practical training topics closely aligned with classroom teaching and real-life needs, he said, adding that improving the effectiveness of English teaching and learning has become a particular priority as Vietnam's 2018 General Education Program sets new requirements for students' English proficiency and language skills.

Trung said DOL English's expertise in English-language training and its recognized Linearthinking methodology made him confident that the workshop would contribute to improving teaching and learning outcomes in schools.

Vietnamese-designed method for Vietnamese learners

Linearthinking is a thinking-based English learning methodology developed in 2018 by alumni of the High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University–Ho Chi Minh City, including mathematics major Le Dinh Luc and literature major Ha Dang Nhu Quynh.

According to DOL English, the methodology has been shown to improve all four English language skills, listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while helping learners develop logical thinking, organize knowledge systematically, and apply the language more naturally.

Quynh said the approach was specifically designed by Vietnamese educators for Vietnamese learners by combining mathematical thinking, advanced memory techniques, and research into how a learner's native language influences English acquisition.

By focusing on thinking and language structure, Linearthinking aims to make English learning both more systematic and more accessible for learners of different ages.

The methodology has been adopted in teacher training programs organized with education authorities.

In April 2025, the Information and Educational Program Center under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training partnered with DOL English to provide Linearthinking training for more than 800 English teachers from elementary and middle schools across the city.

Earlier, in August 2024, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, a newspaper, and DOL English jointly organized a training workshop on improving English teaching and learning through the Linearthinking methodology for public school English teachers at Hanoi–Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
