Le Van Hai, a resident of Hoa Lien Commune, on Tuesday confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that he and his friends reeled in the giant fish after a one-hour struggle.
“The mackerel was nearly two meters long and weighed 63 kilograms,” he said.
Hai said he had previously caught large fish, including sharks weighing dozens of kilograms, but this was the first time he had landed such a big mackerel.

According to Hai, the group was fishing at a rocky reef near Son Tra Beach when his rod suddenly bent backward and the water churned with foam.
Realizing a large fish was hooked, Hai called his friends for help.
Together, they fought for nearly an hour before finally pulling the mackerel ashore.
Hai said the group had to tie the fish to two wooden poles and carry it in stages due to its enormous size and weight.
Instead of selling it, he divided the meat among family and friends.
In recent days, video clips of Hai’s catch have circulated widely on social media, attracting significant attention from fishing enthusiasts in Da Nang and beyond.
