Art exhibition wows aesthetes in Ho Chi Minh City

An exhibition is taking place in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, featuring artworks by five young artists.

The Saigon Artwork 6 kicked off on September 9 at The Factory Contemporary Arts Center at 15 Nguyen U Di Street.

The event, expected to close on September 29, introduces artworks designed by five new faces: Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Bao Zoan, Nguyen Duc Diem Quynh, Nathan Larson, and Kumkum Fernando.

This time, the expo features artworks in five categories which include art installation, photography, origami, painting, and printing.

Diem Quynh, the only girl in the team, has brought her artistic designs themed “The Birth” to Saigon Artbook 6, while Kumkum Fernando, the most experienced member, introduces his works made from useless items such as an old match box or key chain.

The Sri Lankan man was among a few artists invited to join an exhibition to celebrate 50 years of independence of Singapore in 2015. 

Nathan Larson, an artist from Canada, used basic printing techniques to tell the story of traffic jams in Ho Chi Minh City.

Bao Zoan, 26, has taken a long time to capture the city’s beautiful buildings, which are now in bad conditions.
Nguyen Ngoc Vu, 25, used origami to introduce the characters in ‘tuong’ (Vietnam’s traditional opera) to visitors.
All artists have been living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, where their creativity is gradually enriched and inspired by the vibrant local lifestyle.

The annual exhibition is organized by Saigon Artbook, a nonprofit organization established in 2013 to connect local citizens through art.
