Roberts will lead ADB’s resident mission in Hanoi and oversee its operations, policy dialogue, and partnerships in Vietnam, the bank said in a press release.

He will also guide the bank’s country partnership strategy, focusing on green and inclusive growth, disaster resilience, and a more competitive, private sector-led economy.

"I am honored to serve in Vietnam, one of Asia's most dynamic economies and a valued partner of ADB," said Roberts.

"Vietnam has set bold ambitions for growth that is greener and more inclusive.

"ADB will help turn those ambitions into results by financing resilient infrastructure, mobilizing private capital, and supporting the innovation that will power the country's next stage of sustainable development."

Roberts has more than 27 years of international development experience, including 16 years at ADB.

Since joining the bank in March 2010, he has worked on infrastructure financing in its private sector operations department and held a range of technical and leadership positions.

Most recently, he headed ADB’s ASEAN Power Grid and Special Fund Unit, overseeing coordination of the bank’s $10 billion investment ambition for connectivity in Southeast Asia and managing ASEAN-related cofinancing partnerships and funds.

Before joining ADB, Roberts set up the Beijing office of consultancy Cambridge Energy Research Associates, now part of S&P Global.

He also served as vice-president of GE Capital’s energy investment group.

A U.S. national, Roberts holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard Kennedy School, a master's degree in business administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University.

Founded in 1966, the Asian Development Bank is a multilateral development bank and a longstanding partner of Vietnam and ASEAN.

Owned by 69 members, including 50 from Asia and the Pacific, it supports sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth across the region.

In Vietnam, ADB supports investment and reforms in transport, clean energy, urban and water services, agriculture, rural development, education, skills training, and public financial management.

It also works with the government and private sector to mobilize resilience financing and promote public-private partnerships, in line with Vietnam’s Socio-Economic Development Strategy for 2026-30.
