The facility was jointly inaugurated by the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho University, located in the namesake city in southern Vietnam.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Anne Aly, Australia’s Minister for International Development, Minister for Small Business, and Minister for Multicultural Affairs, said the Australia Corner forms part of the Aus4Adaptation program, which connects Australian and Vietnamese partners to support climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta.

She said the Australia Corner is designed to serve as a hub for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the two countries.

The facility will promote the sharing of expertise and experience in climate change adaptation while helping translate research findings into practical solutions for government agencies and local communities.

It is also expected to expand successful adaptation models throughout the Mekong Delta and potentially to other parts of the world.

In addition, the Australia Corner will connect students, researchers, scientists, businesses, and future leaders at Can Tho University with Australian universities and organizations; as well as establish partnerships to seek innovative solutions to address climate challenges in the delta.

Truong Canh Tuyen, chairman of the Can Tho administration, emphasized that the Australia Corner is not just a study or exhibition space but a symbol of educational cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Australia.

He expressed hope for more joint research projects, student and faculty exchanges, and deeper collaboration.
