During their talks on expanding agricultural cooperation, climate change, and resource management, Bird said both countries are major agricultural producers and exporters, with collaboration in the sector advancing steadily in recent years.

She thanked Vietnam for sending an inspection delegation to Australia to assess wild kangaroo meat products and expressed hope that Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment would soon complete its evaluation report to allow imports of kangaroo meat into the Vietnamese market.

Australia also wants to expand bilateral fruit trade.

Canberra hopes to export Australian lychee to Vietnam, while supporting efforts to open the Australian market to Vietnamese lemons.

Regarding food safety, Bird welcomed Vietnam’s decision to temporarily suspend the implementation of Government Decree 46 on food safety and said Australia hopes to continue working with Vietnamese authorities to find balanced solutions that ensure food safety while facilitating trade for businesses in both countries.

On climate change cooperation, Bird said that Australia and Turkey will co-host the upcoming COP31, scheduled to take place in Turkey’s Antalya from November 9 to 20, and she invited Vietnam to actively contribute to global climate discussions.

Minister Hung said Australia’s strengths in climate conditions and agricultural quality complement Vietnam’s diverse tropical agricultural ecosystem, creating favorable conditions for deeper cooperation and higher agricultural trade turnover.

He proposed that both sides continue reviewing sectors with strong potential for market access expansion and move toward signing higher-level agricultural cooperation agreements.

The minister also congratulated Australia on its role as co-host of COP31 and affirmed that Vietnam would participate proactively and responsibly in the conference.
