A screenshot from a viral clip reportedly posted by a resident of Hue City, central Vietnam shows slices of roast pork crawling with maggots
Hoang Viet Cuong, chairman of the Phong Dien Town People’s Committee, said that the controversy began after a video surfaced on social media showing slices of roast pork—initially appearing appetizing—covered with what appeared to be maggots wriggling across the meat.
The video was posted by a woman identified as H., a resident of Hue’s Huong Tra Town.
H. said that she had bought the roast pork from a vendor at a large market in Phong Dien on Tuesday morning.
After using the pork for a family altar offering, she refrigerated it for later use.
When her child later requested to eat the pork, H. took it out of the refrigerator and discovered maggots crawling on the meat.
She filmed the discovery and shared it via a live stream on her personal social media account.
The video quickly gained widespread attention, with many viewers calling on health authorities to launch an immediate investigation due to potential violations of food safety regulations.
Cuong said that local authorities have been asked to clarify the incident, and updates will be provided to the media once the investigation concludes.
