A screenshot from a viral video posted by Seni World Travel shows a train hitting tables and chairs while people are sitting close to the railway at the famous railway café street in Hanoi, Vietnam.
On Tuesday, a user named Seni World Travel uploaded an over-10-second video capturing a train passing through the popular trackside café street, striking tables placed very close to the tracks as diners look on.
Some tables are knocked over, spilling food and drinks, while startled visitors jump up and scream.
Others continue filming the moment with excitement.
“This is a reminder for everyone to keep a safe distance,” the uploader captioned the video.
Speaking with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday, an official from the Hoan Kiem Ward People’s Committee confirmed that authorities were aware of the incident and had transferred the information to the local police for verification.
The first step, they said, is to identify the exact location of the incident before considering any sanctions.
This is not the first time accidents have occurred on the famous trackside café street.
Following several past incidents, authorities have reinforced checkpoints at entrances to the area, requiring both tourists and café owners to comply with safety regulations.
However, businesses encroaching on the railway safety corridor remains an unresolved issue.
City authorities acknowledged the popularity of the train street cafés but they stressed that tourism appeal must never come at the expense of safety.
