At 5:45 am, the changing of the honor guard took place at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
Soldiers from the ceremonial guard, trained to stand motionless for hours, carried out their duties with precision and discipline.
As military music played, the honor guard marched from the intersection of Hung Vuong and Le Hong Phong Streets into the square, where the formal flag-raising was conducted.
When the Vietnamese national anthem echoed through the square, the national flag was hoisted high, fluttering proudly over Ba Dinh.
Citizens, including war veterans and visiting families, stood at attention in respect.
