The marathon is scheduled for August 2 and 3 under the theme ‘The Legend Run,’ said the department, which is organizing the event in collaboration with its partners.
The event is expected to draw about 8,000 athletes competing in four distance categories—5, 10, 21, and 42 kilometers—on routes around Ba Den, the highest mountain in the southern region.
This year marks the fifth consecutive edition of the annual event and the first time Tay Ninh is hosting a race certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the Vietnam Athletics Federation.
The marathon is open to professional male and female athletes, amateur runners, and recreational runners from both Vietnam and abroad.
Race results will qualify athletes to register for major global events such as the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon, the organizers stated.
The opening ceremony is set for the afternoon of August 2 at the cable car plaza beside Ba Den, with competition starting the following morning.
Both the start and finish lines will be located at the plaza.
The organizers affirmed that the marathon’s course has been meticulously measured and checked to ensure it meets international standards for distance, terrain, elevation, and weather conditions, ensuring a fair and rigorous competition.
Beyond its technical layout, the route leads athletes through several iconic landmarks of Tay Ninh, such as Nui Da Lake, Ma Thien Lanh Valley, and the Cao Dai Holy See, delivering a culturally and spiritually enriching experience.
The event offers diverse awards totaling more than VND280 million (US$10,730), of which VND166 million ($6,360) will go to the winners of the two main distance categories: 21 and 42 kilometers.
