A screenshot from a video circulating on Facebook shows a man raising a shovel to threaten two foreign tourists during a confrontation on Nha Trang Beach in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam.
A representative of BlueSea Beach & Bar, located along the Nha Trang beachfront, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday that the confrontation between two foreign tourists and its male staff members occurred during the New Year holiday lasting from January 1 to January 4.
These two foreign tourists had been drinking and behaved inappropriately toward a female employee of the bar.
Male staff members intervened to stop the behavior, but the situation escalated into a verbal argument.
The representative said language barriers contributed to the misunderstanding and heightened tensions.
During the argument, some staff members failed to control their emotions and were seen holding a shovel and a plastic chair while threatening the tourists.
The actions were recorded by bystanders and later circulated widely on Facebook, drawing public attention and criticism.
Following the backlash, the bar said it had met with the two tourists to apologize directly for the incident.
It had reviewed internal procedures and reminded all employees to maintain professionalism and restraint, regardless of circumstances involving customers.
Local officials on Monday confirmed that the matter is being taken seriously.
Leaders of the ward administration said they have instructed local police to verify the incident and handle it strictly in accordance with the law.
The video, more than one minute long, shows the tourists standing on a pedestrian walkway in the beach park while arguing with a group of Vietnamese men.
One man raised a shovel above his head in a threatening manner.
Moments later, another young man in the same group approached the tourists while holding a white plastic chair, also appearing to threaten them.
No physical assault is visible in the footage, but the aggressive gestures sparked widespread concern online.
Many social media users condemned the actions of the group, saying the behavior showed blatant disregard for the law and seriously damaged the image of Nha Trang as a safe and friendly beach destination for international visitors.
