Local authorities in the southern province of Long An were finally able to capture an escaping crocodile on Monday, after the large reptile has spread fears among locals for two weeks.
The crocodile, weighing around 70kg, was sunbathing near Soai Rap River in Can Giuoc District in the morning when some locals spotted it and called the police.
Other residents also lent a helping hand, giving their own boats and fishing nets to officers.
Police eventually managed to capture the reptile, which was said to have escape from a farm outside Long An. A local official confirmed that there is no crocodile farm in the province, some 60km from Ho Chi Minh City.

The crocodile had left local residents in fear for a fortnight. A previous attempt to catch it failed as the reptile tore the nets apart to escape.
Police have transferred the animal to the province’s forest protection agency, which decided to sell it to a farm, according to newswire VnExpress.
“We will give part of money from the sale to farmers who helped police capture the crocodile,” the website quoted Pham Thanh Tam, head of the Can Giuoc police unit, as saying.
