A massive fire, caused by an electrical fault, swept through a pig farm, killing 1,600 pigs and damaging equipment, resulting in a loss of nearly VND6.5 billion (US$255,557), in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on Sunday, local authorities reported on Monday.
The administration in Ia Grai District, Gia Lai Province reported that the fire broke out at the farm of Hoang Van Tiep in Ia Chia Commune.
Police in Ia Grai District uncovered the cause of the incident as an electrical fault.
In addition to the 1,600 pigs, there was damage to equipment including ventilation fans, cooling systems, and odor filtration units.
Leaders of the Ia Grai District People’s Committee rushed to the scene to extend their sympathy to Tiep and tasked local police with handling the incident in line with the law.
The district also asked the administration in Ia Chia Commune to assist Tiep in dealing with the aftermath of the fire.
The natural resources and environment division in Ia Grai District has instructed Tiep to bury the pig carcasses to avoid causing environmental pollution.
