-- Most of Vietnam will likely experience favorable weather for travel and outdoor activities, with no extreme conditions expected during the upcoming five-day holiday from April 30 to April 4 in celebration of the country’s 50th Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1), according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

-- Military and police forces marched down Le Duan Boulevard toward Reunification Palace in downtown Ho Chi Minh City on Friday evening in a full-scale rehearsal for Vietnam’s upcoming grand parade marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and Reunification Day (April 30), drawing large crowds and emotional onlookers.

-- Around 10:00 pm on Friday, police in north-central Thanh Hoa Province captured 31-year-old Bui Dinh Khanh, a fugitive wanted for fatally shooting a police officer during a major drug raid in northern Quang Ninh Province the previous night.

Travel

-- Sun Group, a leading real estate developer in Vietnam, has begun trial operations of electric shuttles connecting the Phu Long cable car station to the central bay of Xanh Island. From April 18 to May 15, visitors using the cable car to Cat Ba Island, located in Cat Hai District off northern Hai Phong City, will enjoy the service free of charge.

-- Ho Chi Minh City will kick off a vibrant series of sports events on Saturday evening to mark the 50th anniversary of national reunification. The events, organized by the city's Department of Culture and Sports, will run from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on April 19, 26, 29, and 30.

World News

-- India is planning to ease its nuclear liability laws to cap accident-related penalties on equipment suppliers, three government sources said, in a move mainly to attract U.S. firms that have been holding back due to the risk of unlimited exposure, according to Reuters.

-- Four people died and one suffered life-threatening injuries after a cable car crashed to the ground near Naples in southern Italy on Thursday, Reuters reported, citing mountain rescue services and firefighters.
