-- Vietnam welcomes and supports dialogue between Cuba and the United States to resolve bilateral differences on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday.

-- Hanoi installs road barriers on several major streets including Dang Van Ngu, Le Duan, and Tran Cung from Thursday to May 31, with some sections subject to traffic restrictions and partial closures, to carry out urgent drainage and flood control projects, the city’s construction department said on Thursday.

-- Authorities in Ninh Binh Province, northern Vietnam have fined a local company VND22.5 million (US$854) and ordered the destruction of 6,000 T-shirts it printed featuring a map of Vietnam that omitted the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes, officials said on Thursday.

-- Vietnam will impose a temporary tariff of 27.83 percent on certain hot-rolled coil steel products measuring over 1,880 mm and up to 2,300 mm in width imported from China, effective April 17, according to the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam.

-- Ho Chi Minh City attracted nearly $2.9 billion in foreign direct investment in the first quarter of 2026, up nearly 220 percent year on year, with a $125 million TikTok Shop Vietnam project among notable new investments, the city’s finance department said on Thursday.

-- The Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City marked its 135th anniversary on Wednesday, recalling its founding in 1891 as the first Pasteur Institute established outside France and highlighting its role in preventive medicine and disease control in Vietnam, including early HIV detection and contributions to polio eradication and COVID-19 response.

-- Ho Chi Minh City’s border guard handed over an Indonesian seafarer rescued after drifting at sea to the Indonesian Consulate General in the city, following his recovery and completion of required procedures, authorities said on Thursday.

-- Vietnam-Russia joint venture Vietsovpetro on Thursday handed over a beach-cleaning sand screening machine worth more than VND1 billion ($37,970) to authorities in Con Dao Special Zone, off Ho Chi Minh City, with a capacity of about 1.45 hectares per hour to help improve coastal environmental management.

-- Ho Chi Minh City plans to break ground on a riverside park and public square project at Nha Rong Wharf on April 30 as part of a series of major infrastructure launches tied to the Reunification Day holiday, city officials said on Thursday.
