-- A passenger was caught at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday morning attempting to smuggle four horns of African rhinos hidden in several milk cans. The wildlife parts were worth approximately VND4.5 billion (US$201,825), according to initial investigations.

-- A 23-year-old man in Yen Thanh District, located in the north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An, was stabbed to death during a physical confrontation at a local karaoke bar on Sunday night, according to police officers.

-- A construction in the southern province of Binh Duong has been found being built without a permit after eight of its floors had been completed.

-- A cabby was discovered dead in his vehicle with no cause of death yet to be confirmed in the central city of Da Nang on Sunday morning, according to the municipal Department of Police.

-- A married couple were killed in a fatal road accident in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum on Sunday evening after visiting their son serving in the military.

-- Tran Diem Thuy, 23, residing in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu, has been arrested for human trafficking, provincial police affirmed on Sunday. Two of Thuy’s accomplices had already been detained for tricking and selling local women to China.

-- According to Tran Dac Phu, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health, a serious dengue fever epidemic has broken out in the Central Highlands, with the number of patients 2.5 times higher year-on-year.

-- Vietnamese conglomerate Hoang Anh Gia Lai on Sunday put into operation a five-star hotel in Yangon, Myanmar. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and high-ranking officials from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia.

-- Several banks in Vietnam have stopped providing their online services to those accounts that had had previous transactions with national carrier Vietnam Airlines, in a bid to ensure information security after a team of Chinese hackers allegedly carried out a cyberattack on the airline’s website and stole its customer data.

Lifestyle

-- Over 2,500 young people participated in a blood donation event that was organized by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi on Sunday. The participants formed a human national flag at the end of the event.
