-- A low-pressure system over the eastern waters off the Philippines is moving west-northwest at 15-20 kph and could strengthen into a tropical depression as it enters the northeastern part of the East Vietnam Sea in the next one to two days, Vietnam’s national weather center said on Tuesday.
-- Flood levels on the Thao River in Yen Bai and Lao Cai Provinces and the Ma River were forecast to rise rapidly from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, posing a risk of flooding in low-lying riverside areas, according to the national weather center.
-- A consortium of China Communications Construction Company and Vietnam’s CIENCO4 Group has proposed developing several urban rail projects in Ho Chi Minh City, including metro line No. 2, the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh airport rail link, the expanded section of metro line No. 1 and other potential routes, according to a submission to city authorities.
-- Police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam said on Tuesday they had filed criminal charges and imposed a travel ban on a Russian man accused of punching a traffic police officer.
-- More than 40,000 people are expected to participate in the state-level rehearsal for a grand parade marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2) at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi on Wednesday evening.

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed a commemorative plaque on Tuesday to mark the production of Samsung’s two billionth mobile phone in Vietnam, following a meeting in Hanoi with Roh Tae Moon, acting head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience division.
-- Gold transactions worth VND20 million (US$759) or more per day must be made via bank transfer under a revised government decree on gold trading issued on Tuesday.
-- Qualified businesses and commercial banks will be allowed to produce gold bars, ending the exclusive production previously held by state-owned Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), under the same government decree.
-- Forbes data updated on Tuesday showed Vietnamese billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong’s net worth reached $13.6 billion, a nearly $1 billion increase from the previous day, placing him among the world’s top 200 richest people.
Travel
-- Hanoi received an estimated 21.58 million visitors, generating nearly VND86 trillion ($3.2 billion) in revenue in January–August, according to a report from the city’s Department of Tourism.
