-- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 in Tianjin, China as a guest of the host country and engage in other activities from August 31 to September 1, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

-- Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang held phone talks with her Kyrgyz counterpart Meder Abakirov on Wednesday, reaffirming that Vietnam treasures and wishes to reinforce its traditional friendship with Kyrgyzstan, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- A state-level rehearsal for the upcoming grand military parade marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's August Revolution and National Day (September 2) took place at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi on Wednesday night.

-- The People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City, has approved the proposal of an investor to develop a metro project connecting the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line in the city with Tran Bien Ward and Long Thanh International Airport in the province.

-- The northern region and several localities from Thanh Hoa to Hue are forecast to face moderate to heavy rains on Thursday, while showers and thunderstorms might hit many parts of southern Vietnam in the late afternoon, according to the national weather center.

-- Due to the circulation of typhoon Kajiki, paired with the discharge of water from hydropower plants, the water level of the Len River rose, causing hundreds of homes in Ha Trung Commune, Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam to be heavily flooded. As of Wednesday, thousands of residents had to be urgently evacuated.

-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has written to the Ministry of Construction proposing a master plan for Tuy Hoa Airport in Phu Yen Ward under Dak Lak Province with a capacity of three million passengers per year by 2030 and five million passengers per year by 2050.

-- The People's Committee of Da Nang City in central Vietnam on Wednesday in coordination with Sun Group held a launch ceremony for a functional infrastructure business, construction, investment project at the foot of Ba Na Hills, as part of a series of functional zones within the Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

-- In 2024, around five million school-aged children in Vietnam, about 30-40 percent of the total, were affected by refractive errors, with the majority being nearsightedness.

World News

-- Two children were killed and 17 other people were wounded on Wednesday at a Minneapolis Catholic school when a shooter dressed in black opened fire on students attending Mass on the third day of school, Reuters reported, citing authorities.

-- South Korea passed a bill on Wednesday to ban the use of mobile phones and other digital devices in school classrooms nationwide, as concern grows about the impact of heavy social media use among the young, according to Reuters.
