-- Vietnam and Egypt have agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive partnership, according to a joint statement issued after a meeting between Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Tuesday.

Society

-- Vietnam will deploy 40 aircraft and a range of naval assets, including SU-30MK2 fighter jets, YAK-130, L39-NG trainers, helicopters, submarines, missile ships, coast guard ships, and fisheries patrol vessels, for the 80th National Day parade, a senior commander said at a military conference on Tuesday.

-- Heavy rain during Tuesday's evening rush hour caused prolonged traffic congestion and disruptions on several roads in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Nai Province.

-- A 14-month-old boy died in Da Nang City, central Vietnam on Tuesday after spending 21 days in hospital, following injuries sustained when his babysitter threw him onto the floor twice, the hospital said.

-- Police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam said on Tuesday they had raided a business employing 29 Chinese nationals and 33 Vietnamese workers to sell health supplements without invoices or proof of origin.

-- Police in Vinh Long Province, southern Vietnam said on Tuesday they uncovered a shipment of 13 tonnes of used cooking oil last week that was being prepared for transport to Can Tho City.

-- Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City said on Tuesday it successfully operated on a 34-year-old woman from Ca Mau Province with an ovarian tumor weighing more than 20 kilograms, the largest the hospital has treated to date.

-- The Drug Administration of Vietnam suspended distribution and recalled nationwide a batch of Promed Gel 30g tubes, an antiseptic and scar prevention product for children, after finding multiple violations related to ingredients, content, and labeling.

Economy

-- Vietnam added over 226,000 new domestic trading accounts in July, the highest monthly increase since September 2024, driven mainly by retail investors, the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation said. Total domestic accounts have risen by nearly 1.2 million so far this year, reaching 10.42 million by end-July.

Education

-- Vietnam’s 22 contestants all won prizes at the 2025 Asia International Mathematical Olympiad in Japan, competing against over 3,500 participants from 21 countries and territories. The team earned one Champion prize for the highest high school score, plus 10 gold, seven silver, and four bronze medals.
