-- Hanoi traffic police said on Sunday that traffic flow at major intersections improved and congestion eased after seven days of operating an artificial intelligence-powered traffic control network, with AI cameras detecting 1,020 violations, mainly running red lights and riding without helmets.

-- Vietnam will add the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to its national immunization program from 2026, with a pilot offering free shots to 11-year-old girls in four provinces -- Tuyen Quang, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak and Vinh Long -- between 2026 and 2028.

-- Eighty low-income infertile couples will receive free in vitro fertilization treatment at My Duc Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and its branches in other localities from January 6 to 15, 2026, the hospital said on Sunday.

-- About 1,000 people took part in health screenings and blood donation at the Red Sunday blood drive organized in Ho Chi Minh City by Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper and Military Hospital 175 on Sunday, with organizers collecting nearly 300 units of blood to bolster supplies ahead of the upcoming holiday season.

-- Hanoi authorities said the city would stage a 15-minute fireworks display at five locations across the capital from 11:45 pm on December 31 to mark the 2026 New Year, according to VnExpress.

Economy

-- Credit growth to Vietnamese real estate developers persists but is slowing, rising 4.7 percent quarter on quarter in the third quarter of 2025 as companies seek funding for new projects and land bank expansion, brokerage MB Securities said in a report.

-- LS Eco Energy, a renewable energy and rare earths company under South Korea’s LS Cable & System, has approved a plan to expand its rare earth metals business in Vietnam as part of a strategy to pursue long-term growth in strategic materials, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

-- Vietnam’s state budget revenue reached about VND2.47 quadrillion (US$94 billion) by December 15, exceeding the full-year 2025 target by 25 percent, the Ministry of Finance said.

-- Two species from Vietnam, the sucker-mouthed fish Supradiscus varidiscus and the bee Habropoda pierwolae, were among more than 70 new species identified in 2025 and listed by the American Museum of Natural History.

-- A traditional Ngo boat race returned on Sunday to Phuoc Long Commune in Ca Mau Province, southern Vietnam after an 11-year hiatus, drawing thousands of spectators, some of whom climbed onto rooftops to watch the competition along the Quan Lo–Phung Hiep canal.
