-- The United States has announced an additional US$750,000 in emergency aid, bringing its total support to $1.75 million for families and individuals affected by recent flooding in Vietnam, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi said on Facebook on Friday.
Society
-- Northern Vietnam is cold on Saturday with morning fog, while the south sees sunshine and parts of the central region still has heavy rain.
-- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said nationwide guidance is needed and urged studies to launch projects to curb air pollution and manage air quality in key areas, starting with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

-- Ho Chi Minh City will ban and restrict traffic on several downtown streets as it holds its eighth international marathon from Saturday to Sunday.
-- From 2021 to 2025, agricultural and environmental authorities in Lam Dong, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, and Vinh Long Provinces, and Can Tho City collected 12,121 farm, forestry, and seafood samples for safety testing, with 11,865 samples, or 97.89 percent, meeting standards and 256 samples, or 2.11 percent, rejected and handled locally, and not supplied to Ho Chi Minh City, the city’s Food Safety Department said.

-- At a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Friday, the finance ministry said Vietnam plans to establish free trade zones in Da Nang, Hai Phong, and Ho Chi Minh City in 2026, expand to six to eight zones nationwide by 2030, and have eight to ten internationally competitive zones by 2045 contributing 15 to 20 percent of GDP.
-- Amazon will help Vietnam develop as a regional e-commerce export hub in Southeast Asia, vice president for international public policy and government affairs Susan Pointer told Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long during a meeting in Hanoi on Friday.
-- Kim Long Motor Hue inaugurated its Yuchai engine manufacturing plant and rolled out its first engines on Friday at the Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone in Hue City, central Vietnam, marking the country’s first plant with a modern production line capable of making engines to international standards.
