-- Vietnam’s national weather agency reported that a tropical depression over the central Philippines weakened into a low-pressure area on Monday afternoon, adding that Hue City and south-central coastal provinces are forecast to see moderate to heavy rain through Wednesday.

-- Can Tho City in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta will inaugurate and break ground on seven major infrastructure and housing projects worth more than VND8.9 trillion (US$340 million) on December 19 to mark the 14th National Party Congress, scheduled to take place from January 19 to 25, 2026.

-- Two U.S. Navy ships carrying more than 2,300 officers and sailors arrived at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port on Monday afternoon, marking the start of a four-day friendly visit to the central Vietnamese city.

-- Ho Chi Minh City will temporarily ban all vehicles from passing through the Saigon River Tunnel from 11:00 pm on December 19 to 4:00 am on December 20 to ensure traffic safety and security during the operations of the tunnel’s automatic fire-extinguishing system.

-- Ho Chi Minh City will display New Year’s Eve 2026 fireworks at four sites during a 15-minute show from midnight to 12:15 am on January 1, according to the municipal administration’s plan announced on Monday.

-- A four-year-old girl was seriously injured after a loose dog attacked her while she was playing at a seaside square in Phuoc Hai Commune, Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday evening, prompting local authorities to launch an investigation into the incident.

-- Vietnam welcomed nearly 19.2 million international visitors in the first 11 months of 2025, surpassing all previous records. The figure is expected to climb even higher during the year-end travel peak, according to data released by online travel platform Agoda on Monday.
