-- Vietnam’s government has issued Decree 59/2026 regulating deportation, administrative detention, and escort procedures for law violators, including foreigners subject to expulsion, and setting out their rights, including prior notice, consular contact, and the right to lodge complaints under the law.

-- Vietnam recorded 381 traffic accidents nationwide during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday from February 14 to Sunday, leaving 230 people dead and 274 injured, down 154 accidents, 73 fatalities, and 118 injuries from the same period a year earlier, the Traffic Police Department said.

-- Rescue teams recovered all six bodies of victims on Sunday afternoon following a passenger boat sinking on Thac Ba Lake in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam, authorities said.

Travel

-- Vietnam’s tourism sector served about 14 million visitors during the Lunar New Year holiday, according to newly released data from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

-- Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism said on Sunday that tourism revenue during the recent Lunar New Year holiday reached VND12.15 trillion (US$467.85 million), up 42.9 percent from a year earlier.

-- Noi Bai International Airport handled a record 124,546 passengers and 702 flights on Sunday, the final day of the Lunar New Year holiday, airport authorities said.

-- Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City handled nearly 178,000 arriving and departing passengers on Sunday, the highest daily total on record and about 13,000 above the Lunar New Year peak forecast, with nearly 60,000 more travelers than on a normal day, the airport said.

-- Da Nang International Airport said on Sunday that three drone intrusions into flight paths during the recent Lunar New Year holiday directly disrupted 49 flights.

-- Ho Chi Minh City’s 2026 Lunar New Year Flower Street, formerly known as Nguyen Hue Flower Street, closed at 9:00 pm on Sunday after attracting more than 1.8 million visitors, organizers said.

Economy

-- The United States spent $17.8 billion importing wooden furniture in the first 11 months of 2025, down more than eigt percent from a year earlier, with Vietnam accounting for over $8.1 billion, or more than 45 percent of the total and up about five percentage points in market share, according to data cited by Vietnam’s Import-Export Department from the U.S. International Trade Commission.
