-- Cold air may continue to dominate Vietnam’s weather on Tuesday, bringing severe cold to the north, heavy rain to parts of the central region, and unseasonal showers to the south during the late afternoon and evening, according to the national weather center.

-- Local police in Cam Lo Commune, Quang Tri Province, central Vietnam recovered and returned approximately VND86 million (US$3,250) worth of cash and assets, along with personal documents, to a Lao tourist who lost them while traveling during the New Year holiday spanning from January 1 to 4, earning heartfelt thanks and praise for the country’s hospitality.

-- A house fire accompanied by a loud explosion killed one person and injured two others on Monday afternoon in suburban Hanoi, prompting an urgent investigation by local authorities after firework debris was found at the scene.

-- The Airports Corporation of Vietnam has proposed a major overhaul of one of Da Nang International Airport’s runways, seeking roughly VND1.25 trillion ($48 million) to repair infrastructure that has exceeded its design lifespan and increasingly threatens flight operations, according to a report submitted to the Ministry of Construction.

-- Police in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam confirmed on Monday they had launched criminal proceedings against 10 suspects, including the director of a social work center, in connection with the death of a teenage student who was allegedly beaten during a disciplinary program.

-- A herbal medicine producer in Quang Tri Province has officially completed its first direct export shipment to the U.S., marking a significant milestone for the province’s agricultural and processing sector and signaling growing international confidence in locally branded herbal products, local officials said on Monday.

Ho Chi Minh City

-- Ho Chi Minh City authorities have proposed January 15 as the date to break ground on several major transport and sports infrastructure projects, including metro line No. 2, the Can Gio Bridge, the Phu My 2 Bridge, and the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex, according to a report submitted to the municipal administration.

-- Unexpected off-season rain fell across many parts of Ho Chi Minh City late on Monday afternoon, disrupting traffic as commuters headed home, after atmospheric disturbances linked to strong easterly winds triggered widespread but moderate rainfall, local meteorologists said.

-- Ho Chi Minh City recorded 3,197 newly detected HIV cases in the first nine months of 2025, with more than half involving men who have sex with men, according to a report by the city’s health authority.
