-- The People's Court in Da Nang City, central Vietnam on Monday sentenced a 30-year-old man to death for killing his mother because she did not make breakfast for him.

-- The administration in Vung Tau Ward, Ho Chi Minh City has requested relevant authorities to urgently investigate the origin and type of chemicals stored in 10 barrels left on a local hill, as well as assess their impact on the environment, residential areas, and public health.

-- The Nam Du Border Guard Station in An Giang Province, southern Vietnam reported on Monday evening that its officers had successfully rescued nine people from two squid fishing boats that sank off the coast of the province.

-- Officers from Coast Guard Region 4 under the Vietnam Coast Guard seized two vessels illegally carrying approximately 300,000 liters of diesel oil on Sunday and Monday.

-- Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh has requested the Ministry of Construction to propose solutions to address loopholes following a tourist boat accident in Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam, which left 39 people dead, and report the results to the prime minister before August 15.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department said it had implemented a 'special solution' to urgently address difficulties faced by businesses regarding the application for export certificates for fruits and agricultural products to Europe.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade has requested the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Company Limited, the operator of the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line No. 1, to integrate the pilot of providing essential goods and services into the metro line operation plan, and submit it to the municipal administration for review and approval.

World News

-- Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the U.S. automaker had signed a $16.5 billion deal to source chips from Samsung Electronics, a move expected to bolster the South Korean tech giant's loss-making contract manufacturing business, Reuters reported.

-- Top U.S. and Chinese economic officials resumed talks in Stockholm on Monday to resolve longstanding economic disputes at the center of a trade war between the world's top two economies, aiming to extend a truce by three months, according to Reuters.
