-- The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy’s 83rd task force arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday for a five-day goodwill visit aimed at strengthening defense cooperation and mutual understanding between the naval forces of Vietnam and China.

Society

-- Vietnam’s Agency of Food Safety on Monday ordered an investigation into a suspected food poisoning incident linked to a chicken rice restaurant in Cam Ranh Ward, Khanh Hoa Province after multiple diners were hospitalized with abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea.

-- About 22 million Vietnamese people aged 18-69 are living with chronic illnesses, military doctors said at a cardiology conference in Ho Chi Minh City over the weekend.

Economy

-- QTM International Port JSC broke ground on the QTM International Port in Ho Chi Minh City’s Phu My Ward on Sunday, launching a nearly VND6.9 trillion (US$262.4 million) project in the Cai Mep–Thi Vai port complex that is designed to handle about 16 million metric tons of cargo annually.

-- Ho Chi Minh City plans to break ground on four metro projects with a combined length of about 138.8 km by the end of 2026, according to a six-month socio-economic report submitted by the city’s Management Authority for Urban Railways to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance.

Education

-- Police in Tuyen Quang Province, northern Vietnam said on Sunday they had detained a teacher from Tuyen Quang High School for the Gifted under an emergency order to investigate the 2026 national high school graduation examination results at the school’s test site, after the province recorded 154 perfect scores in mathematics, including more than 140 from students at the school.

Travel

-- Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has proposed a series of tourism development measures, including incentives for high-end tourism projects and accelerated investment in major attractions such as a cultural park, international fireworks complex, marina facilities, luxury resorts, golf courses, a MotoGP racetrack, duty-free shopping centers, and large-scale entertainment venues.

-- Da Nang welcomed about 9.77 million guests at accommodation establishments in the first half of 2026, up more than 22 percent from a year earlier, with revenue from accommodation, food services, and travel nearing an estimated VND36.2 trillion ($1.37 billion), the city’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said.
