-- Following recent severe rains, flooding, tornadoes and landslides that have caused significant loss of life and property in several localities in China, Vietnamese leaders on Wednesday sent messages of sympathy to their Chinese counterparts.

Society

-- Two rare yellow-cheeked gibbons, including a male weighing some six kilograms and a female weighing around three kilograms, have been found in the garden of a household in Dong Nai City, southern Vietnam.

-- Police in Bac Ninh Province, northern Vietnam have discovered a cyber fraud operation involving 11 Chinese nationals who ran a fake e-commerce platform to scam French citizens.

Ho Chi Minh City

-- Ho Chi Minh City aims to resume advertising on the exterior of buses under a new model aimed at generating additional revenue and improving service quality after a five-year suspension.

-- The municipal People’s Committee has issued a decision recognizing 23 initiatives and science and technology projects for their effectiveness, potential for wider replication, and citywide impact. They are mainly aimed at modernizing governance, promoting digital transformation, and enhancing the quality of public services.

Travel

-- The 2026 International Gong Festival will take place in Gia Lai Province in the Central Highlands region in late October, attracting numerous delegations of local and international artisans.

-- The Chinese and Portuguese teams are entering the final stage of preparations ahead of the grand finale of the 2026 Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, which will take place in Da Nang City, central Vietnam on Saturday evening.

-- The Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on Wednesday that the Enjoy Da Nang Festival 2026 will kick off at Bien Dong Park and on several beaches on July 22, and run until July 26.

-- Many people have been excited to spot a Bryde’s whale mother and calf swimming close to the waters off Vung Boi in An Luong Commune, Gia Lai Province, where they have been feeding over the past few days.

Economy

-- Volvo Vietnam has officially announced plans to introduce two new fully electric vehicles, the EX90 and the ES90, to the Vietnamese market.

-- Vietnam imported diamonds worth VND3.16 trillion (US$121.5 million) during the first half of this year.
