-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with President of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Philemon Yang on the sidelines of the third UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France on Monday.

-- Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong received Ambassador of the European Union (EU) Julien Guerrier, along with ambassadors and chargés d'affaires of EU member states in Vietnam, at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on Monday.

-- Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and his spouse will pay a visit to Vietnam on Wednesday and Thursday at the invitation of State President Luong Cuong, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Economy

-- The investment alliance between Vietnam’s Mekolor and the U.S.’s Great USA Inc has proposed investing in the North–South high-speed railway project, using their own capital totaling some US$100 billion.

-- Vietnam-Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro extracted roughly 14.6 million metric tons of crude oil between 2020 and 2025, generating revenue of $9.03 billion from oil, condensate, and gas sales, according to the firm’s report.

-- Plastic producer Duy Tan Group confirmed on Monday that it had officially completed its divestment from the household plastic and packaging field and transferred its entire business in this field to Thailand’s SCG Group.

Society

-- At a meeting with the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board on Monday, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh requested that the construction of the Xuan Dinh depot for phase 1 of metro line No. 2 begin in October 2025, and that the entire line breaks ground in the fourth quarter of 2026.

-- A low-pressure area in the East Vietnam Sea has strengthened into a tropical depression and is forecast to further intensify into a storm on June 12, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

-- Criminal police officers in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam said on Monday that they were holding 13 suspects in temporary detention for their alleged involvement in a fraud and asset appropriation ring operating in Cambodia, led by Vietnamese nationals in collaboration with Chinese nationals.

-- The immigration management unit under the police department in Ninh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam announced on Monday that it had deported 13 Chinese individuals and repatriated two Chinese under 16 years old for illegally entering Vietnam.
