-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam on Tuesday urged U.S. tech giant Qualcomm to deepen its cooperation with local firms, boost technology transfer, and support training initiatives to help develop a high-skilled science and technology workforce. He made the remarks during a meeting in Hanoi with Alex Rogers, president of global affairs at Qualcomm Inc..

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held talks with his French counterpart Francois Bayrou in Paris on Tuesday afternoon (local time), after concluding his activities at the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in Nice.

Society

-- A tropical depression over the East Vietnam Sea is forecast to strengthen into the country’s first storm of the season on Wednesday, bringing moderate to heavy rain from southern to central Vietnam, according to the national weather agency.

-- Hanoi’s chairman Tran Sy Thanh has urged faster progress on the groundbreaking of the Tran Hung Dao and Ngoc Hoi Bridges over the Red River, scheduled to begin in August.

-- Ho Chi Minh City has approved a nearly-VND7-billion (US$269,100) technical assistance project, funded by non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) from South Korea’s Knowledge Sharing Program, to study the establishment of a metro operations and maintenance training center. The project, managed by Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Company Limited – the operator of metro line No. 1 – will run through December 31, 2025.

-- Authorities in Lam Dong Province have asked the investor and contractor of the Bao Loc 2 Bridge to speed up construction but suspend weekend work to ease traffic congestion on National Highway 20, where long delays have disrupted travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat City during the summer tourism peak.

-- Ho Chi Minh City traffic police on Tuesday announced road closures in several downtown areas this weekend for a running event.

-- U.S. companies in Vietnam have urged the Trump administration to lower tariffs on Hanoi, according to a letter from the American Chamber of Commerce obtained by AFP on Tuesday, warning the levies would hurt their business.

-- Vietnam suffered a 0-4 defeat to Malaysia at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday in their third-round fixture of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
