-- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan appreciated the contribution by Vietnamese workers to his country’s economic growth, expecting to receive more highly-skilled Vietnamese employees in the coming time, the top UAE official told a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday as part of the former’s two-day visit to Vietnam.

-- Vietnam always attaches significance to its friendship and cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire and considers the latter one of its key partners in Africa, the Vietnam News Agency cited Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh as telling a reception for President of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly Adama Bictogo in Hanoi on Wednesday.

-- Six more long-haul bus routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the central and northern regions will be moved to the New Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in Thu Duc City from the old one in Binh Thanh District in the second quarter of 2023, according to a report recently sent by the Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. 

-- Police in Ha Nam Province, northern Vietnam told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday that they were investigating a traffic accident in which a traffic police officer was killed after a container truck crashed into a stationary car in Thanh Liem District on the same day. The officer was checking the car when the crash occurred.

-- The Ministry of Health will complete all legal procedures to downgrade the classification of COVID-19 to that of a less dangerous disease and declare an end to the pandemic this month, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong told a press briefing on Wednesday.

-- Police in the northern Vietnamese province of Tuyen Quang have busted a massive inter-provincial illicit drug trafficking ring, detaining eight traffickers and seizing over nine kilograms of narcotics. The ringleader was identified as a former official of Huoi Pan Village in Son La Province.

-- All five members of the management board of Vietnamese carrier Bamboo Airways tendered their resignation before a general meeting of shareholders takes place on June 21, following the 2022 huge loss of over VND17.6 trillion (US$747 million).

World

-- The Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged on Wednesday but signaled in new projections that borrowing costs may still need to rise by as much as half of a percentage point by the end of this year, as the U.S. central bank reacted to a stronger-than-expected economy and a slower decline in inflation, reported Reuters.

-- New Zealand's economy shrank in the first quarter as the central bank's aggressive hiking of interest rates to a 14-year high hurt businesses and manufacturers, while bad weather hit farms, putting the country into a technical recession, according to Reuters.
