Politics

-- Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha proposed Vietnam and China prioritize infrastructure cooperation, especially in the railway sector, at his meeting on Wednesday with Wang Dongming, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

-- The third coast guard patrol boat has been delivered to the Vietnam Coast Guard, as part of the U.S. Excess Defense Articles program.

Society

-- Northern Vietnam is forecast to see scattered showers on Thursday, while the central region is likely to remain hot with possible intense heat in some areas. The Central Highlands and southern regions may experience heavy rain and thunderstorms late on Thursday afternoon, according to the national weather center.

-- A sleeper bus traveling on Le Duc Anh Street in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City suddenly crashed and mounted the median strip, startling many passengers on Wednesday afternoon. The incident caused traffic congestion in the area.

-- Ho Chi Minh City has continuously uncovered numerous cases of counterfeit goods production and trading, mainly involving dietary supplements, milk, cosmetics, and bird’s nest products. As of June 14, forces had inspected 533 establishments, handling 526 violators, with total fines amounting to nearly VND20 billion (US$766,350), heard a press briefing held by the municipal Department of Industry and Trade on Wednesday.

-- Binh Duong Province in southern Vietnam on Wednesday broke ground for a section of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road No. 4 project, which runs through the province’s Tan Uyen City, Ben Cat City and Bac Tan Uyen District.

-- Ho Chi Minh City will start work on a VND7.3-billion (US$280-million) project to dredge and upgrade infrastructure and the environment along the north bank of Doi Canal in September.

-- Many banks such as Agribank, VPBank, BIDV, TPBank, and OCB have announced a plan to put used cars up for auction.

-- Nearly VND6.3 trillion ($241.3 million) has been invested in 15 warehousing and logistics projects in Tay Ninh Province’s border area, boosting its role as a major trade gateway in southern Vietnam.
