-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse will pay an official visit to Malaysia and attend the 46th ASEAN Summit and related events in Kuala Lumpur from May 24 to 28, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

-- The state funeral for former Vietnamese State President Tran Duc Luong began at 7:00 am today at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi, with official tributes and ceremonies continuing through Sunday.

-- Vietnamese and Lao police forces have jointly dismantled a transnational gambling ring led by Mai Anh Viet, a 44-year-old Hanoi resident. The racket processed nearly US$50 million in bets and involved thousands of players in the first five months of 2025.

-- Rescuers have recovered the bodies of two children, aged 8 and 5, who drowned in the Ma River in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam on Friday afternoon while swimming with friends, according to local authorities.

-- Northern Vietnam is bracing for a strong cold front starting today, which will bring cooler weather and heavy rainfall, with risks of floods and landslides in mountainous areas, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

-- Police in northern Phu Tho Province have busted a massive transnational multi-level marketing ring involving over 107,000 Vietnamese citizens. The network, led by a Vietnamese man and a Malaysian national, sold dietary supplements containing prohibited substances and illegally profited trillions of Vietnamese dongs.

-- Nguyen Thi Dung, 30, has been arrested in Thanh Hoa Province for running a major counterfeit cosmetics operation, livestreaming products on TikTok and selling them nationwide at unusually low prices. From late 2024 until her arrest, Dung received more than 1,000 orders across the country, earning over $5,400, police confirmed on Friday.

-- A U.S. judge on Friday temporarily blocked the Trump administration from revoking Harvard University's ability to enroll foreign students, a policy the Ivy League school called part of President Donald Trump's broader effort to retaliate against it for refusing to "surrender its academic independence," Reuters reported.

-- Eighteen people were injured in a knife attack in Hamburg station on Friday evening, Germany's Bild newspaper reported, and local police confirmed they had arrested the suspected assailant, according to Reuters.
