Politics: 

-- General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, arrived on Thursday evening (Vietnam time) in Moscow, beginning an official visit to Russia and attending the Victory Day parade.

-- On Thursday, Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a phone call with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to congratulate the city-state on successfully holding its 14th parliamentary election, which resulted in a victory for the People’s Action Party (PAP), led by Wong as its secretary-general.

Society

-- Starting Saturday night, a cold spell is forecast to bring heavy rain to northern and north-central Vietnam, with cooler weather expected and some mountainous areas turning chilly.

-- The People's Committee of Hue City in central Vietnam has announced the revocation of land for the Hue Golf Complex project in Thuy Duong Ward, Huong Thuy Town owing to delays in implementation. The revoked project covers an area of more than 78 hectares, with a total investment of approximately VND1.885 trillion (US$72.5 million).

-- The People’s Committee of District 3 in Ho Chi Minh City has issued an administrative fine of VND 31.5 million ($1,212) against a parking lot featured in a viral video alleging it charged VND100,000 ($3.85) per motorbike, 10-20 times the common price for the downtown district.

-- Several wards and communes in Ho Chi Minh City have announced plans to compile a list of women who gave birth to two children before the age of 35, in order to provide them with a subsidy of VND3 million ($115) per person.

Economy

-- Vietnamese Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang announced that next week, a delegation led by the Ministry of Finance will work with U.S. authorities, associations, and businesses in the fields of semiconductors, high technology, banking, and more.

Travel

-- Vietnam Airlines has officially resumed direct flights between Hanoi and Moscow after a three-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic and international developments. The restoration of this route is expected to boost tourism, with hopes of welcoming more Russian visitors to Vietnam and vice versa.

Sports

-- This year's UEFA Europa League final will be an all-Premier League showdown between Manchester United and Tottenham. The two sides will face off at San Mamés Stadium in Spain on May 21.

World News

-- "Cardinal Robert Prevost, a long-time missionary in Latin America, was elected as the surprise choice to be the new leader of the Catholic Church on Thursday, becoming the first U.S. pope and taking the name Leo XIV," Reuters reported.
